Science Behind Mindful Art
Mindful art combines creative expression with present-moment awareness, engaging both the brain and the nervous system in a powerful way. As you focus on color, texture, or movement, your brain shifts from a stressed, overactive state (sympathetic nervous system) to a calmer, more balanced one (parasympathetic nervous system). This reduces cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increases dopamine and serotonin - neurochemicals linked to mood, pleasure, and motivation. Studies show that even brief creative sessions can lower anxiety, regulate breathing and heart rate, and increase feelings of clarity and well-being.
